Based in New York, The Alternate Side highlights some of the best Indie talent. The station has a full studio where they can recreate their best music to the hilt.

YouTube Now Features A Recommendation Engine For Music Videos

As many of you probably noticed, YouTube’s music page has been overhauled, and a key feature has been added: a recommendation engine for music videos based both on your settings, preferences and these clips that your friends are sharing.

In practice, this turns YouTube into a tool for discovery that makes me think a lot of the days in which MTV actually played music.

Such a move was long due in the face of competing services such as The Hype Machine and Pandora, and it was somehow announced just a couple of weeks ago with the release of LeanBack (a service for discovering videos based on what your friends are watching). Continue reading

Justin Bieber’s “Baby” Becomes The Most Viewed Music Video On YouTube

"Baby", The First Single From Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" Has Become The Most Viewed Online Music Video Of All Time

"Baby", The First Single From Justin Bieber's "My World 2.0" Has Become The Most Viewed Music Video Ever On The Internet

Just when you thought that nobody could displace Lady Gaga from her high throne and top the successes of the internet artist par excellence, along comes Justin Bieber and grabs the distinction of having the most watched online music video ever. I guess the app for keeping Bieber out of the Internet wasn’t that effective after all.

The song that has achieved that marvelous feat is no other than “Baby” (where Justin is accompanied by rapper Ludacris). Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” now lags slightly behind. I have embedded the video below. Proceed at your own discretion.

Hibi No Neiro (Sour) – Video

Sour Is A Three-piece Band That Hails From Japan.

Sour Is A Three-piece Band That Hails From Japan.

I’d like to introduce you to one of the most imaginative music videos I have come across recently. It is named “Hibi No Neiro” [Tone Of Everyday], and it is the first single to be issued by Japanese artist Sour from its “Water Flavor” EP. The people you can see are real fans that filmed their parts using nothing but their webcams.

The video has just won the award for “Best Music Video” at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival.

Just watch it and enjoy. I wouldn’t be surprised if more awards are on its way.

Love Me Like The World Is Ending (Ben Lee) – Video

Ben Lee

Ben Lee

I have just discovered this Australian artist, and I am certainly going to explore his discography further. His name is Ben Lee, and I caught wind of him thanks to his song “Love Me Like The World Is Ending”. That song was featured twice on one of the best shows I have watched recently, “Life Unexpected”. It was used to open chapters one and thirteen – the season’s premiere and finale.

The guy has got an incredible way with language, and he has achieved an equilibrium that I find extremely rare. He can play with words elegantly, and he can convey sentiments plaintively in equal measures. In short: he was perfect for a show like “Life Unexpected”, what with the story focusing on the complexities of life and the simple way in which love can solve just anything.

The song “Love Me Like The World Is Ending” exemplifies that perfectly. I am going to order both “Awake Is The New and Sleep” and “Ripe”. But if you are already acquainted with Ben and you think I should start elsewhere, please let me know by leaving a comment below.

Cuando Juega Uruguay (Jaime Roos) & Cielo De Un Solo Color (No Te Va Gustar) – Music Videos

Uruguay

Today Uruguay’s national soccer team beat Ghana in the most dramatic match I have ever seen in my life. This puts Uruguay in the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup for the first time in 40 years.

As a way of supporting a team that has made us all proud, I would like to share two of the most popular soccer-related songs that have ever been written and recorded by Uruguayan artists. The first is “Cuando Juega Uruguay” [When Uruguay Plays] by Jaime Roos. The other is “Cielo De Un Solo Color” [Single-colored Sky] by No Te Va Gustar. That song is not really about soccer, but it has become synonymous with the sport here.

Now we are squaring up against Holland on Tuesday. I frankly believe that after today’s show of stamina and guts everything is possible.

¡Vamos Uruguay, carajo!

The Official “Quit Facebook Day” Gave Birth To A Music Parody By Rapper SeanieMic

Facebook privacy this, Facebook privacy that… it looks like the whole world can’t find anything else to talk about. And while the topic at hand is a legit cause of concern, it seems not enough people are worried enough to change their ways and turn their backs on the site that experts claim will revolutionize the Internet like Google did in the ‘90s when it introduced AdSense.

Well, that is the impression I am left with after seeing the results of the official “Quit Facebook Day” that took just place on the 31st of May. Can you guess how many people quitted Facebook from the 400,000,000 users that the network has? A staggering 20,000. Hey, no, wait, that’s not it – 20,000 folks pledged to quit. The actual number of people who jumped ship must have been much lower. The word “flop” doesn’t get much more suitable than this.

So, did something good come out of the official “Quit Facebook Day”? Well, this music video is the closest thing I managed to find. It is a parody rap anthem by SeanieMic, and it is named… “I’m Quitting You Facebook”.

Pretty cool. If you liked it, give this previous post a try – it includes a metal hair anthem by Back Of The Class called “My Mom’s On Facebook”. Lots of fun too.

Radar Music Videos – Find The Right Director For Your Music Video

RadarMusicVideos
Name: Radar Music Videos
URL: http://www.radarmusicvideos.com

No music project is unviable any longer – the amount (and diversity) of social networking sites currently available has wiped the word “impossible” away from the dictionary of music. If you wanted to assemble a band together that plays only one song – a 45-minutes rendition of “The Crystal Ship” – you are not only going to gather the musicians, but you are also going to get some supporters. That is, now that viral videos are all the rage people have license to do mostly whatever they fancy from the comfort (and safety) of their living rooms. The chances of a random drunk flinging a bottle of Newcastle Brown at the band are not just minimized – they become non-existent.

But if you think about it, not every angle is already covered. There is one in particular that has been unattended until now: the creation of a compelling music video. And that is all the more surprising because the potential a clip can have when it comes to doubling the expressive force of a song is colossal.

This site hopes to do something about that. It will let you create video projects that will then be scrutinized by directors, and those who feel that they can bring your original vision to fruition will get in touch. You can then decide whether or not you are hiring them. Continue reading

En Una Lágrima (RostbiF) – Video Clip

I’d like to share with you the first video clip created by one of the Uruguayan bands I collaborate with, RostbiF. The guys hail from Nueva Helvecia (an inland town) and this particular song has one of the very first lyrics in Spanish that I ever wrote. It is called “En Una Lágrima” [In A Tear].

I also penned two other lyrics for them – “Rebellion Winds” and “These Eyes”. You can listen to all of these songs in full on their PureVolume profile.

This is the video clip for “En Una Lágrima”. I have attached the lyrics below along with a translation into English.

Of course, look for a full profile and an interview with the band on MusicKO soon! Continue reading
